Elementary Band
The Elementary Band teaches 4th and 5th grade students to proficiently play either flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, trumpet, trombone or percussion individually and in a band setting. This class builds upon the early elementary music instruction introducing playing fundamentals and technique, reading music, and performance of musical pieces. Students are expected to practice daily and are required to attend two evening performances during the school year. Additional private lessons are highly encouraged and are available on campus. Band or orchestra are mandatory for all 4th and 5th grade WCA students.
Concert Band
Our 6th through 8th classes may participate in our concert band which requires at least one year of previous instruction on a wind, brass or a percussion instrument. The middle school band program moves students into the intermediate level playing and develops the understanding of music theory and advanced key signatures. More challenging musical scores are learned and performed in preparation for high school band. While voluntary, students who play flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, trumpet, trombone or percussion are strongly encouraged to participate. Students are expected to practice daily and are required to attend two evening performances during the school year. Additional private lessons are made available on campus after school.
