Drama
Weston Christian Academy cultivates the creativity of each child recognizing each as a unique Image Bearer of the Creator. In the elementary years WCA students participate in drama vignettes as part of their chapel experience as well as a full production Christmas pageant against the backdrop of professional staging and audio. Moving into the middle school years, instruction in drama and theater assumes a more formal role as part of the fine arts elective track.
Our middle school Drama course introduces Greek, Roman, Middle Age, Renaissance and Shakespearean theater. Students learn the essentials of characterization, articulation, dialect, diction, movement and composition, choreography, improvising, costume and make up, types of staging, acting areas and blocking, lighting and technical production. Our Theater course provides the actual application of the Drama course whereby students are involved in either a full play or musical theater production in the spring. Past productions have included spell-binding presentations of The Lion King Jr., Esther, Godspell Jr., and Fiddler on the Roof Jr. Students have acted in theatrical district and state competitions and have the opportunity to be a member of WCA’s chartered Junior Thespian Honor Society.
